| IADDA is a statewide organization established in 1967 representing more than 100
prevention and treatment agencies, as well as individuals who are interested in
the substance abuse field. The Association advocates for sound public policy
that will create healthier families and safer communities. IADDA members educate
government officials in Springfield and Washington, and work to increase the
public's understanding of substance abuse and addiction.
Celebrating Our Success in 2005
Ø
We achieved a 3% CODB for treatment services in a year
where there was little new money for anything
Ø
We raised the awareness of SA issues in Illinois and now
have a Senate subcommittee to gather public information about treatment
on demand issues
Ø
We focused on prevention services in Illinois and made
them a cornerstone of our message
Where We Have Been
Ø
2001—IADDA led the way in a public education campaign by
commissioning a statewide poll to study public attitudes towards
treatment, prevention, and other substance abuse related issues.
Received national recognition for the poll. Conducted a statewide media
blitz to disseminate the message.
Ø
2002—IADDA led the way in the development and hosting of a
National Treatment Plan conference. Received federal, SAMHSA-level,
recognition for this effort. Led the way in Illinois in working with DHS
to craft the Illinois Statewide Substance Abuse Plan around the
components of the National Treatment Plan. The domains of the NTP were
reflected across the state in all planning areas.
Ø
2003—IADDA led the charge for a statewide ballot
initiative calling for treatment services on demand. Initiative was
successful in Cook County only; however, efforts by membership and
coalitions raised the awareness of our issues in the state.
Ø
2004—IADDA led the way in the restoration of treatment
funding, $7.2 million, that had been cut from DASA in the Governor’s FY
05 budget.
Ø
2005—IADDA led the way in the effort to secure a tax
increase on Alcopops, a significant prevention effort, as well as
leading the effort to secure a 3% CODB for SA services. Raised the
awareness of SA issues in Illinois. Committed a significant number of
resources to advertising and public education.
